Squidbits (abbreviated)
I have been too depressed this month to really write anything up. The Squid is awesome and getting more awesome every day, and I have been so fucked up that I have not been able to do anything more than just maintenance parenting, so I am missing out on it. Still, here are some pictures from the last few weeks, courtesy Himself.

Le Squidlet had a hard time for a few weeks in there - first he got an icky snuffly cold and fever, then he screamed every time he had to go to sleep, wouldn't sleep through the night except in our bed, fussed and cried constantly - but it passed (without us ever figuring out what set it off - teething, maybe?) and he's back to his cheerful self. Himself came back from overseas and promptly caught the baby's cold, so we parented with Pixar some more for a while. We are paying for it now that we have cut him off, as he begs for the teevee now, but he does that less and less each day as we stand firm. New words include "Bye" (or "Die," to our great amusement), "Yeah," and, incessantly, "More." Language is awesome.

He was a soccer player for Halloween, as my parents had given him a Peru team jersey that still fit - I wasn't going to dress him up at all, but as I was pulling into my driveway on the 31st I saw a mom out with her son in soccer uniforms and remembered we had one. He doesn't really have any concept about Halloween - too little - but we went over to the house of someone in our neighborhood play group and he had a blast ratpacking around with the other kids.

He still dances, though not as much these days, and he brings me books to read all the time, which is the one "good parent" thing I have been able to manage consistently throughout all of this. We went to the park with friend L last weekend, and his Lolo came to visit the weekend before. He went to Santa Cruz and the zoo with his daddy and we went over to a friends' house for dinner and out to breakfast at the cafe where he likes to dance (the blues band played guitar solos to him on their knees, awww). I think he's pretty happy, and that I feel my parenting failures much more keenly than he does. But I miss being able to have fun with him; I haven't been down this far for this long for a really long time.

In Russian "die" is an informal singular command, "give."

Thanks, all. I have had two not-awful days in a row, which is pretty much my record for the last few months, and so I hold out hope.
And Anon - hey, my kid is already multi-lingual! Cool.
